Ubuntu Summit 25.10 Extended – Namibia
Ubuntu Summit 25.10 Extended in Namibia brought together students, developers, and open-source enthusiasts to learn, connect, and grow the Ubuntu community through live talks, workshops, and shared experiences.

We had the chance to host the Ubuntu Summit Extended in Namibia during Ubuntu summit 25.10 in October. It was such a great experience, bringing together tech enthusiasts, students, and professionals who love open-source software. More than 25 people joined, and others from around the country joined online. The summit gave us a chance to connect, learn, and share ideas, all while having fun.

Starting the Ubuntu Community in Namibia

I’ve been part of the Ubuntu community for a while, and I noticed that lots of people in Namibia were already using Ubuntu, even if it was just during Python events or other tech meetups. But there wasn’t really a proper space for us to connect, share ideas, and learn together. That’s why I decided to start the Ubuntu Community Namibia.

The Ubuntu Summit Extended came at the perfect time. It gave us a reason to come together, meet each other, talk about Ubuntu, Linux, and open-source projects, and watch the main summit live while hearing directly from experts right in front of our screens. It made us feel included and truly part of the community.

Watching the Summit Live Together

What made this summit extra special was that we all gathered together to watch it live online. The main event was hosted in London, but we watched it on our computers and big screens here in Namibia. Everyone in the room was following the talks at the same time, which made it really fun, we could discuss things, ask questions, and just enjoy it together.

Those of us in person at The Zoo Park and Windhoek West had a lively space, while others in different parts of the country joined online on their computers. Even though we were spread out, it really felt like we were all in it together.

Learning About Open Source

Besides watching the talks, we spent time explaining how Ubuntu and Linux work. A lot of people use Ubuntu without really knowing how it works or how open-source communities function. We talked about how people can get involved, contribute, and learn more from open source.

It was really great to see people asking questions and genuinely wanting to understand. Giving them this insight made the event more than just watching talks, it became a learning experience.

Inspiring Student Projects

One of the most inspiring parts of the day was hearing from students using Raspberry Pi in their projects with Ubuntu. They shared their challenges and how they managed to use Ubuntu in their projects. It was amazing to see how young people are using open-source tools to create and learn, even with limited resources.

Fun and Memories

Of course, we also had a lot of fun! We went around the city with banners and cameras, taking pictures, laughing, and enjoying ourselves. Everyone was in a great mood. It was awesome seeing people from different backgrounds come together over something they’re passionate about.

The connections we made and the energy made the summit extended really special.

Looking Ahead

We hope the organisers of the Ubuntu Summit will continue to give us a platform in the future. Events like this inspire more people to explore open-source software, contribute to projects, and become part of a community of like-minded tech enthusiasts.

We also plan to host more meetups, workshops, and events where people can learn from each other, collaborate, and grow together.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us, both in person and online, and special thanks to the Ubuntu Summit organisers, Mauro, Aaron, and the entire team, for making this possible.
